There are 2 basic types of stains, organic and mineral. Organic stains are light to medium in color and tend to gradually spread. Mineral stains are generally dark in color and usually isolated to one spot. Scale and Stain control chemicals prevent scale buildup on your pool walls thus making your pool more beautiful and reducing the need for future, more expensive cleaning projects. There are several different types of algae:
GREEN ALGAE

MUSTARD (YELLOW) ALGAE

Evident by the formation of small coin sized black spots, tenaciously adhering to the pool surfaces. Black algae forms a layered structure where the first layer, which may be killed by chlorine, protect the under layer from further destruction. Black algae, like mustard algae, is also very chlorine resistant.
